Postgraduate courses (MSc. Surgical Sciences)

SURGICAL ANATOMY OF THE MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM
The meticulous knowledge of the surgical anatomy of the musculoskeletal system and the related neurovascular structures constitutes an essential tool for a high-quality practice of Orthopedics. The aim of this course is the demonstration of the principles of the Surgical Anatomy of Orthopedic Surgery, the consolidation of the anatomical relations during surgical approaches by the student, and delving into the anatomical basis of the complications that may appear during these operations. The widespread usage of arthroscopic techniques necessitates adequate knowledge of “arthroscopic anatomy” by the modern orthopedic surgeon and constitutes one of the individual goals of the course which is accomplished by the usage of contemporary and interactive educational tools.

SURGICAL ANATOMY OF THE ABDOMEN
The importance of the Surgical Anatomy of the Abdomen as a course in the Postgraduate Studies Program of Surgical Sciences is of cardinal importance. The course focuses on the association of the knowledge of Descriptive and Topographical Anatomy with the principles of Surgical Anatomy, regarding specific regions of the abdominal cavity. Apart from the relations of the anatomical structures which are recognized in the various stages of surgical operations, special emphasis is given to understanding the anatomical basis of the complications related to these operations, along with the functional consequences that probably accompany them, thus including the essential elements of Clinical Anatomy. Additionally, the various approaches (open or laparoscopic/robotic) of an anatomical region require the knowledge of the respective anatomical perspectives from the aspect of the surgeon in the current age. The aforementioned goals are achieved through the usage of contemporary educational tools including interactive planning of the lectures, 3-D imaging, video projection, etc.
